entreprise: About us
Barclays moves, lends, invests and protects money for customers and clients worldwide. With over 300 years of history and expertise in banking, we operate in over 50 countries and employ over 140,000 people. We provide clients with loans, financing, risk management, strategic advice and transactional payments support. We support corporate clients to achieve growth and job creation in the real economy, governments to deliver their stability and growth plans, and institutions to meet the long-term investment needs of their clients. Our customers and clients benefit from access to the breadth of expertise across Barclays. We’re one of the largest financial services providers in the world, engaged in retail banking, credit cards, corporate and investment banking, and wealth and investment management.
Our distinctive business model has cemented our position as a world leader in the industry. But we’re still relatively young and extremely ambitious. The investment bank was founded just 15 years ago, and we’re still growing year on year and continually pursuing excellence in everything we do. With a pioneering spirit, intellectual rigour and an uncommonly collaborative approach, we put the needs of clients and stakeholders at the heart of every decision we make. Even against the backdrop of ever-changing financial markets, we’re continuing to expand, providing our clients with a more comprehensive service than ever. Our 2008 acquisition of Lehman Brothers’ US broker-dealer business has added M&A and cash equities expertise to our portfolio – a clear example of the bold thinking that defines our organisation.
Graduates joining us quickly discover that Barclays is a different sort of investment bank. Our ethos is simple. We expect excellence, every second of every day and in every area of the firm. A true meritocracy, we have a flat structure and reward talent and innovation over position and tenure. So as you might expect, we have very high expectations of our graduates. That’s why we give them as much responsibility as they can handle right from the start. Wherever you join us, you’ll join as a valued member of your team, working alongside senior managers across departments, and even around the world. All of which means your core skills must include an international outlook.
We have graduate and internship opportunities in areas right across the firm, including: Compliance, Corporate Communications, Finance, Global Financial Risk Management, Human Resources, Investment Banking, Marketing, Operations, Prime Services, Quantitative Analytics, Research, Sales, Structuring, Technology and Trading.
The graduate programme
Most firms will tell you that graduates are key to their success. But few can demonstrate a level of commitment to match ours. Senior managers across Barclays are intrinsically involved in graduate training, giving you a remarkable degree of insight and exposure from the moment you join us. Our graduate programme starts with an intensive introduction to the firm, our products, instruments and services, and the wider financial markets. You’ll gain more than a theoretical understanding, however, with a variety of case studies, workshops and presentations giving you invaluable practical knowledge and skills. You can also expect comprehensive role-specific training, plus soft skills development.
Most of our internships last for 6-10 weeks over the summer, although we do have off-cycle opportunities depending on business need. In all cases, you’ll find yourself at the heart of the action. You’ll gain real experience in a real role, working on anything from live transactions and marketing projects to research and analysis, according to the business area you join. As well as benefiting from extensive training before and during the programme, you’ll have regular opportunities to network with intern colleagues, recent graduates and senior members of the firm.
For first year students, or those in their second year of a four year course, we offer a week long insight programme giving you the opportunity to find more about the firm through presentations, training sessions, work shadowing & networking opportunities.
