Hi Sergio, hi Chris. How’s it going on the tour?

Well, it’s really great. It’s good to be on the road again. Yesterday, we had a day off and walked around a bit. It’s cool to be back in Switzerland. Tonight is our first own show after we had played Montreux Jazz Festival a couple of years ago and then there was this support show for The Stones last summer.

Isn’t it weird to tour with a reduced production compared to the UK in winter?

Nah, not really. We don’t really care about the show. We just wanna play. For us, it doesn’t matter if we play to 20’000 people in the UK or to 200 in Italy. And we don’t think that we’ve got to prove more over here.

You played in Brussels on Wednesday when the Brits were taking place in London.

Well, this is all that business and award thing stuff. We didn’t care about it and we decided not to show up there although we were nominated. We just wanted to play.

Jonny Quinn (drummer of Snow Patrol) said that a band „will never have made it“.

I guess, he’s right. A band will never have made it, otherwise it would be boring. You’re always trying to get better and that’s what a band should work for. We didn’t realize how far we’ve made it until we got a number 1 record. And also the show at Earls Court. That was a place we always wanted to play. We’d seen Oasis there about ten years ago and well, it made us quite proud to play this venue.

Sergio, I can’t really imagine you sitting at home with an acoustic guitar and writing songs when I listen to the record.

Basically, it’s how it starts. We’re adding all the other stuff afterwards. Leicester is a great place to write songs although it doesn’t offer a lot besides museums and lots of ruins.

I once read a German review of ‘Empire’ where it says: “I think that Kasabian are always nearly making the perfect song but somehow they don’t manage. The ingredients are right but the product is either too salty or mouldy.”

Well, he’s wrong. And anyway, what’s the perfect song? The are reviews and reviews.

Talking about your empire, where would it be?

Definitely space.

And who would live there?

Mr. Bean.

Who wouldn’t?

This German reviewer.

The media really like to compare Kasabian to Oasis.

Well, we don’t see any similarity between Kasabian and Oasis, not concerning our music. However, when it comes to the attitude, I think we’re pretty similar ‘cause we also do what we want to do. And we all come from sort of the same place where you have to work to achieve something. That could be what connects us with Oasis maybe.

How would you describe the current music scene?

I have no idea. We don’t really have the time to listen to music when we’re on tour. Sometimes, there are records that influence you but I think one of the last records that was really important for me, was ‘Endtroducing’ by DJ Shadow.

What are you doing next?

We’re gonna be on tour for the next few months. And the we’re doing quite a few festivals in the UK like the Isle of Wight, the Glastonbury Festival, the V Festival and I think, we’ll also do some European festivals, however, we always get to know that one week before we have to go there.

Thanks for the interview, have a great gig!

Thanks mate, take care.
