Ebony Bones: «I am a Coop girl.»

Mrs. Bones, you have been to Switzerland quite often recently. How come?

I just love it here. I actually split my time between Switzerland and London. But now we are on tour. Cee Lo Green asked me to join him on his journey through Europe - and I said yes. We are even on the same bus together, it is a dream. And between the shows I am finishing up my new album. Right now, many things are happening at the same time. Whew!

Two years ago you performed at Shift Festival in Basel. Meanwhile, quite a lot has changed, I suppose?

Yes, quit a lot changed. Well, let’s see. I changed my hair - no actually I have not - I changed tights, I changed underwear, I changed costumes – that’s enough change for today. No seriously, I am really excited about the new release. There have been a lot of evolvement and there is a whole new team behind me. But now I enjoy performing. The Swiss crowd is really uninhibited. Every body tells me the Swiss never move but wherever I am, I think: Really?

Tell us more about the upcoming album and the next steps.

Well, we relocated and worked mainly in the States. Everybody is really enthusiastic and the tracks that we have done are getting huge feedback. I had the chance to work with people that I really admire but I won't tell more.

Next month I am starring in an opera at the Manchester International Festival. It is initiated by Damon Albarn and he approached me and asked whether I would like to join. I was so surprised. It is a major production. Jean Paul Gaultier is doing the costumes – it is going to be a quit huge event. Yes, a lot is going on at the moment.

How does the new album sound?

The new album floats in a way. It is not polished and all clean, it is coming from a real person and it got edges. I do not think things need to be shiny or glossy in order to be creative. I am still very much hands on with the process of making music and I am grateful for being able to do so.

Is it going to be as loud and energetic as your debut?

Well, a lot of people said the word dark, after they have heard parts of it. That is very interesting but I do not know what it means.

Ok, so we just have to wait until we can hear and understand the new darkness of Ebony Bones?

Yes, exactly. Get the album, come to my shows and feel the power. Thank you. And by the way, I am really admiring your Migros necklace (an der mein Presseausweis baumelte). It looks so sweet. Even though I am a little Coop girl.

Thank you and thank you for the chat.
