Hi Daniel. How are you?

Thanks, I'm fine. We're in Paris right now. We're playing our first show tonight.

Will you play some new songs as well?

Yes, I think we're gonna play three new songs.

It's almost three years since you released 'Antics'. What took you so long?

Well, we toured until October 2005 and took the rest of the year off. We met in January 2006 again and recorded until October. So we didn't really have a lot of time to do other things. We played more than 200 shows after the release of 'Antics'.

You're new album is one of the most eagerly-awaited records this year. Do you feel any pressure?

No, not really. We're happy with how it turned out and we don't really think about what others might think. It takes enough to please the four of us. We made the album we wanted to make and we didn't feel any forces around and we didn't have to compromise with the sound. In a way, we were more open with the sound. The whole album has a lot of more space. We don't really think in advance what we want to do and we're always like 'let's do this' and 'let's do that' and if it doesn't work, we stop and try out something new.

How did you come up with the title, 'Our Love To Admire'?

It's just nice and beautiful and with the artwork and everything, it's a unit, it has a strong content.

The artwork is quite weird.

Where have you seen it? Amazon? We don't talk about the artwork until the whole thing is out. It's more than just this one picture. You have to see all of it.

You once described 'Antics' as a documentation. How would you describe this one?

Did I? Well, it's still a documentation. I think every album is a documentation of certain moments of time. This album documents our lives and the life in a band from January to October 2006.

What do you think of today's rock scene?

We're being asked this question over and over again. We've been busy with recording this album and I don't think that I always need to know all the bands and everything what's going on.

In the British media it's become natural to deliver some small scandals. You're kind of normal. Why?

I don't know, give it a time. Haha. We don't really compete with other bands and we don't care what others say. We do what we do, we write songs, record them and go on tour. We're not very keen on the publicity and music industry stuff.

You're new single, 'The Heinrich Maneuver' is out. What's it about?

Paul wrote the lyrics so you should ask him. But you know, we don't really talk about the lyrics. I think bands should never talk about the lyrics, they should let their fans listen, otherwise they always try to hear what the song is said to be about.

Who's No. 1 In Threesome?

It's not No. 1, it's I. Haha.

I misread that. But who would you like to have a threesome with?

Well, wouldn't you? Haha.

Musical threesome?

No thanks. As I said, we're living in a bubble and there are no bands that influence me.

You're on tour again, is it good to be back?

Oh yes, it's very nice to be back. The time in the studio can be very anxious and stressful and it's always kind of repeating. To play live is a great reward after the work.

What's better, touring the US or touring Europe?

We like both, it's cool to tour the US and then Europe. You need to change, otherwise you get sick and bored. We like to travel around and play everywhere.

You seem to take touring pretty easy.

Well, it's our first show tonight. Give me six months and I can't see the damn baggages anymore. Haha.

Is there anything planned for Switzerland?

I don't really know, I think those things are being planned right now. Maybe in Fall. I remember the last time we played in Switzerland. It was in Fribourg, a pretty nice town and sweet landscapes. The next day, we drove to France, Belfort I think, and it was beautiful drive, we had lots of fun. We might come back to Zurich or Geneva, it's been a really long time since we last played there.

Tonight, you're playing in Paris. How's the atmosphere?

Well, we've been in Paris for two days and we had the time to walk around a bit. It's unbelievable but you don't really sense the bad atmosphere because of the elections. There were some graffiti at the Bastille but that's all.

Daniel, our time is up. Have a nice show tonight and thanks for the interview.

Thank you, nice one.

Das neue Album von Interpol, 'Our Love To Admire' erscheint am 06.07.2007.
