Launching a new career in 2008 - Andrea McEwan

21.03.2009 um 11:55

Signed as a songwriter to Dramatico Songs, the publishing arm of the company, Andrea's first assignment was writing with Katie Melua.
The song was called “What I Miss About You” and along with a second collaboration, “Dirty Dice”.

Dramatico offered her a record deal, so Andrea (label-mate of Katie Melua at Dramatico) started in March as support act on Katie's first part of the “Pictures-Tour”. All the writing for her first album was pretty much done and they laid down the band for each track at Air studios before the tour. She had also laid down some final vocals to complete them after the tour. Performing in several cities of Europe from March to May, she said in an interview: “I was a tour rookie the first time I toured with Katie and she really put me at ease.”

On 04/04 the first blog appears: “There have been so many `firsts´ in the last few weeks that I might as well add this one to the list! My very first blog!” After the last gig on the first part of the tour at the Royal Albert Hall (London), her tour-dates on the Katie´s summer tour were cancelled, while finishing her first debut-single at the studios. After her trip to Australia for a month, she came back and Mike Batt had found the members of her current band. “Mike did a brilliant job finding everybody. They are cracking musicians and such brilliant people as well.”

In August the next `first´ appeared, her new homepage: (http://www.andreamcewan.com)

Some industry showcases in September followed, so in the Soho Bar (London) on 11/09 before she went back on tour with Katie as her support in October/November.

Starting up on 02/10 in Brussels, her first single-CDs “Candle In A Chatroom” was sold for the first time in the hall, after her gig. The fans, mostly discovered her at the shows supporting Katie Melua, were pleased to get the autographs on them after the show. The first single-CD “Candle In A Chatroom” was official released on the 13/10, also as a vinyl 7”.

Andrea to Candle In A Chatroom: “The idea for Candle In A Chatroom sprang from an article that I read in a weekend magazine about relationships in the 21st century. It contained very frank interviews with people who sought convenience in love and relationships above all else.”

The second track on the CD 'Black Socks In The Wash' is the first song to take inspiration from the universal laundry dilemma, comparing it with relationships. “Lovers keep disappearing like black socks in a wash”.

Accompanied by 18 video blogs, she toured again through Europe on the second part of the “Pictures-tour”. She got very emotional in her "early times". Everyone can see this on her video blogs (really funny and nice blogs). Probably these good times are as a result of good feedback from fans. By the way, she also has a lot of fans without being Katie's support. As she said at one interview: “It is irrelevant to me how old my fans are or how they came to know my music. Naturally I have gained the support of a lot of Katie's fans as a large majority of my gigs have been supporting Katie. I'm hoping my music will attract the kind of people who listen to lyrics and who appreciate good old-fashioned honest story telling.”

Andrea has already written thirteen known songs, that are: “Alibi”, “Berlin Love Story”, “Black Socks In The Wash”, “Candle In A Chat Room”, “Fast Train”, “Invade My Privacy”, “Isn't It Funny?”, “Lovesuit”, "Mr London Town", “Rental Property” and "Take Me To The Sea".
Also the lyrics to "What I Miss About You" and "Dirty Dice".

“Fast Train” is a more personal song. On one level tells about someone who wants to be reunited with someone they loved that has passed away - about speeding through this life to be with them on the other side: “On another level, it is about wanting to speed across the globe to be with my Mum”. “Berlin Love Story” tells the story, how she met her husband on a flight. In autumn she changed her first home to “Berlin” and is now living in Germany.

Her first album "Rental Property" is finished now, and is due to be released on 24/04/2009 in GSA.
The second single "Alibi" is released on 24/03/2009 in anticipation for the album.
